Hey peeps. I want to become a video editor and was just wondering what the best software/hardware was to begin learning on? I don’t even know the basics so I am really starting at the beginning. I have a fairly good budget to work with. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Legionnaire asked: I am an 18 year old college student interested in filming. Not so much in doing it professionally but still wish to film.
Ever since I was 10 yrs of age I would use my old and cheap video camera and record small little stories with my friends. I would film scenes in order and if editing was needed, i would simply connect the video camera to my vcr and go from there.
I’m here asking you on what I need to get started to film in a better manner. I’m interested in purchasing a MACBOOK with iLife 06′ since it has the movie and dvd editing software and its simplicity to use. Final Cut Pro is great but too expensive for me and I would like to start of with iLife.
So I know I need that, and obviously a Mini DVcamera, correct? If so, which one? I’m interested in the HD quality and feel I need a great microphone; I dont want bad sound.
Bear in mind, as a college student I dont have a huge budget. My filming will consist mostly of filming a small series of episodes with friends.
Thanks!

I’m a treasurer of a newer HOA group that is looking to upgrade to a better accounting program. We need something that works for non-profits but also allows us to get reports and budget. We are a small group with around 60 units.

x1 asked: My girlfriend needs help in looking for a perfect laptop for her need. Her budget would be $600-$800. Software she mostly use are Photoshop, Illustrator, and likes watching movies. She also would like it to be portable because she likes to travel. The laptop size she’s looking should be 12-13 inch, I know this is kinda small in using this for graphic design, But she she wouldn’t buy it if it’s bigger that 13 inch. and Lastly It should have a clean and professional look, (similar to Apple notebooks and Sony VAIO). I’m having hard time looking for that best laptop, I’ve googled it for 2 days now, I’ve also browse the review on CNET, But had no luck.
Gateway NV4404i is the closest laptop we’re looking. I admire the whole hardware except for the HDD and It’s size. I’m not really complaining on the HDD because We can always buy external ones. Her complains is it’s bigger on the size she had in mind.
To give you an Idea here’s the Laptop we admire
Macbook Pro 13″ (It’s perfect, but It doesn’t fit to her budget)
Sony sony vaio E Series (second option to mac, still it doesn’t fit her budget.)
Gateway NV4404i (it’s over 13 inch)
Please help us find this laptop.
thanks!

Mvelopes looks like exactly what I want but it seems awfully expensive. Anything similar that’s free (or at least cheaper)?

Elliott asked: I need something that meets all of the following criteria-
-Plays music and movies (preferably not just mp3/mp4)
-SD memory expansion slot
-At least 8-16gb of on-board storage
-Flash memory, not HDD
-down-loadable apps
-wifi
-$300 budget
-It can be a phone, but I must be able to acquire, and use, all features without paying a monthly data plan
I’m not stupid I know the iTouch is around, but the software and hardware is much too restrictive (only mp4/mp3, no expansion slot for memory). I also know that the only other app-based machines are Android powered.
I’m looking for a device I can carry with my “dumb” phone for multimedia, wifi browsing, and apps. So a smartphone capabilities without the monthly bill. I’d prefer to save $2,000 over two years by living on wifi.
