Okay, here’s the thing. I have a couple home videos I want to burn and are already freshly ripped onto my desktop in mpeg format. I had the impression that mpeg’s play natively in DVD players, but that is obviously not the case after a bit of info searching in Google, so there goes a huge waste of a DVD-R that won’t play on my DVD Player/Xbox. I then attempted to search for a few free DVD Authoring software that would automatically convert to a compatible DVD format and then burn to DVD-R. I have tried searching endlessly but so far, to no avail. I’m the kind of person who looks for reviews before trying and if the majority dislike the software, I don’t even bother (though I did try a few, but they were trials with ugly watermarks
I am on a (VERY) tight budget, so if any software that is capable of what I want is only accessible by purchase, are there any tutorials that exist to explain how to do this alternatively? Any help is appreciated!
PS: I dual boot Windows Vista and Ubuntu 8.10, so any software for these two great OS is fine!
Let me clarify real quick that I’m not looking for DVD ripping software to pirate movies. That is illegal.
I’m looking for software that will let me create a playable DVD movie using my MiniDV-recorded movies (home videos). I’ve tried converting the mpegs using All Video Converter to a supposedly “DVD” format and then burning the files directly onto the disk, but that didn’t go so well. Any better ideas using stable free software?
