I’ve rather outgrown the simplicity of Movie Maker, but am VERY budget constricted… with an unlimited budget I’d get Final Cut Pro, but at $1300 it’s a *leetle* out of my price range. I’m hoping to find something for less than $100, but might be willing to pay as much as $200. PC-based, user-friendly, and able to do multiple video and audio tracks for more complex editing, plus wouldn’t mind some better effects and transitions than can be found with Movie Maker. Any suggestions? Thanks!

After our secondary home PC recently gave up the ghost, we hope to buy a laptop, but are finding the process a minefield. My partner is totally blind and needs a pretty decent model to install his JAWS screenreader software on…As stated above our priorities are a fairly well known brand name, good memory and CPU, Intel Duo preferably and one with separate graphics capability, not shared. Screen size, weight and battery life not so important- our budget is up to and around £600 but negotiable for the right model.Partner and I both seem to be wary about certain brands and want to narrow the choice down before we investigate further. Feel free to ask me any questions- I am reasonably computer literate- just know nothing about laptops!
Oh finally I heard some Vista laptops can be “downgraded” to use XP on….bloke doesn’t want to use Vista until he has done more research into how it works with screenreaders for the blind, any different keystrokes etc

I was thinking about buying the Canon VIXIA HV20 or HV30, but I need an AFFORDABLE video editing software that is suitable for a Windows PC and that can capacitate HD video. I’m 15 years old and have a very small budget so if you know any good software lets say under 100 bucks that works well let me know. Also I’m going for a filmic look so I will use 24 frames per second but i might need something to enhance the image. I want my movie to look like a real film not some cheap camcorder look. Thanks.

Ok, so I have a very low budget, and I’m looking at this software: Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro Version 4. I need advice on this software, whether or not it’s a good buy, etc. If you think it isn’t a good buy, can you point me in the direction of a good software under $100?

Rosetta Stone charges $400 for their language software and yet the program is actually based on a very simple design. I don’t know if you have used Rosetta Stone before but their approach to learning languages involves getting the student to match the picture with the word. They have also includes speech recognition as well. The concept is actually very clever, with a proven track record of success as millions of people have been benefiting from Rosetta Stone but the software design is extremely simple, even a first or second year university student with programming experience could design something similar… and I wouldn’t mind having a stab at producing my own version, partly out of the enjoyment of programming and I need a project for my degree course but also because I might be able to capitalise on this venture and release a low budget version of the Rosetta Stone software. But I’m concerned that should Rosetta Stone get wind of my project they might be able to sue me for violating copyright laws.

Anybody know of a clever and easy way of doing it? Seems like we have tried everything. We have one account we get both of our direct deposits in. We call it our bill account . Then we have an account we call our spending account.

which 1) allows custom categories and 2) the database is on your computer (not online). I dont want to do anything comples, just track my monthly spend vs a budget.
I tried Microsoft Money. Its a good tool, but teh categories are fixed ; you cannot add any new spending categories.
