Last night my brother installed “Marine Sharpshooter Trilogy” on my laptop (a Toshiba Satellite) and this afternoon it crashed. It displayed an error message saying that a “software add-on” had caused some sort of problem and Windows was not able to start. What steps should I take to obtain my information? Would it be cheaper to just buy a new computer and transfer the information there instead of repairing my old one? Does anyone know any low-budget computer shops, websites, or toll-free phone numbers I can call?

YASAR asked:

Please advise me on good performance monitoring software. Budget is no issue.

A typical performance monitoring tool has:

Server monitoring
Application server monitoring
Database monitoring
Web services monitoring
Virtualization monitoring

An example is ManageEngine’s Applications Manager

currenty, We want to monitor:
1 – BEA Weblogic server 8.1
2 – Oracle 9i Rel 2

Once I can identify the bottlenecks, recommendation for hardware / software upgrade can be made easily.

Thanks.
Please note I want to find and fix performance bottlenecks in Oracle Database (Oracle 9i Rel2), as well as generate graphs on statistics collected over a period of time so when a DBA comes he has proper statistics. So far, we do not have any tool configured to collect statistics.

Is Oracle Enterprise Manager enough for this?

His budget for this is $0. He lives in Joshua Tree, CA and his hookup would be a telephone modem. He has a Yahoo account that he uses at a library, so all he needs is access to the web from his home. What company, what software does he need to do this?

I am looking for a free budget website or software that I can download for free. I can’t afford Quicken (ironic right?) and I can’t use Mint.com because my bank is an obscure FCU that isn’t on the site. I have requested it to be added, but nothing as of yet has happened. I’m looking for a program that will show what categories I have been spending the most in and will record what I spend.

I have a camera, well not the best. but what else do I need like video editing software, where can I get microphones so sound quality is better, and where can I get special effects software? and is there anything else I need? I’m only 15 so don’t expect me to have a giant budget. if you know safe sites that I can download this stuff I’ll be happy to try it out. just don’t get my computer a virus haha.

I have been looking at media players but non of them seem to get really good reviews. At first I thought i would be able to buy something that has storage, has media player software and is wireless so i can copy movies to it. The problem is i am not really able to find anything that ticks all of these boxes and gets good reviews – can someone please suggest the best thing i can do? Budget is £150 max.
thanks

I will be making my first full length film in a couple of months. I don’t have any suitable equipment or any prior experience. I am on a tight budget. I have a macbook pro that does come with iMovie but I was thinking to upgrading to Final Cut. Any advice? So basically I need info on equipment on a budget (primarily a camera and editing software), tips or tricks for making good amateur movies, and any sources you think will give me good info. Thanks greatly

JesseTV asked:

I’m making a Resident Evil-esque movie, designed to subtly poke fun at the early games in the series, while referencing some other stuff, but still all around having a serious tone. So I need help with equipment/software. My budget will be approximately $150-$200.

1: Most camera angles will be static, or having some basic movement. I don’t need a camera that boasts it’s ability to reduce motion blur (or whatever,) so what would you reccomend?

2: What would be a good freeware (not shareware, not illegal downloads, not trials) movie editing software that has some good, actually useful features, and not just a Windows Movie Maker clone? (ie: Filmstrip editing?)

3: What would be a good freeware software that would let me create simple CG effects (mostly explosions and classic RE style door opening sequences)

4. Any other advice?
