Computer software for pretty much anything (not just for workplace PCs) has been spiraling in costs.

And a company that stays on Windows XP, for instance, instead of spending millions upgrading everything every few years, risks falling behind.

Doesn’t the increasing cost of technology, and the “need” to keep replacing it again and again at an accelerated pace, hurt business budgets?

Hey Everyone!

So I’ve got the privilege of having an acoustic, classical, bass, and electric guitar, and a player for each, and in time a drum set. Our group likes to focus on quality and precision. On a teenage budget, what recording software and equipment do we absolutely need? I use a Windows 7 as well as a Mac 10.4, soon to be 10.5, so I’m open to a lot.

Thank you so much!

I’m a first year international student at the University Of Windsor, Ontario majoring in Computer Science Honours with software engineering specialization.
After i arrived, i realized that the university of Windsor is good but there are some better universities like University Of Western Ontario Or McMaster university.
I choosed these two because they are still whithin my budget.
Now, i’m thinking to transfer to one of these universities after completing one year at my current university.
However, if i transfer, i’m going to loose at least 5 courses.
Something to bear in mind is that i’m planing to apply for a master degree after i graduate and i can have it at a better university.

So, i’m confused now. Do i have to transfer or not???

I need expert people to advice me!

I will be getting a laptop for school next year and I’m sick of Windows and definitely ready to try a Mac. All I will really use it for is:

-Surfing internet and watching live baseball games
- Email
-Instant messaging, preferably AIM
-Write papers, powerpoint presentations, and that stuff…
-Listening to music…Itunes
- If it is still working 3 years from now maybe run some software for my home office on it.

so as you can see I wont be doing anything really intense. But Im sick of Windows and heard Vista has a lot of problems, although they might be sorted out by the time school comes around. I know Macs are a little more expensive, but it does fit into my budget. Ive spoken to people who got “great deals” on laptops for like $599, only to see it die within a year. I believe you get what you pay for. So I will be using a laptop for all of the above functions, but I also want a GOOD laptop that will not die after 1 year.
But since I never had a Mac I just want to make sure I can do everything I want to on it….and Im pretty sure I could.

Thanks to all who answer!

Including editing software (PC or Mac—haven’t decided but I have a PC right now), mics, portable recorders, speakers, etc.

Mind you I don’t have the biggest budget (still a student).
