Hey Guys. I will make this quick. I am a new rapper just starting to record my own stuff. Right now I am recording through audacity with my computer mic. Gross. I am looking to buy a new studio mic, but i also need some recording software. I am 16 so I am on a tight budget, so do you know of anything for free or not to much $ that would do the job? My producer and I make beats with LLMMS so we would need to be able to import audio into this software. Please and Thanks!
Oh and if you are interested in my music let me know, I will direct you to our FB or youtube page! Thanks Again!

Hello Lenovo Thinkpad owners & techies alike,
I’m considering a Thinkpad but currently need a GOOD reason to spend a premium amount on it compared to other similar hardware fitted laptops which sometimes have better warranties (eg. Toshiba) and mostly cost a lot less.
But I’m hoping someone can give me a compelling argument and maybe even point out a budget Thinkpad that doesn’t cost almost twice the price of a decent laptop for my needs.
For this, I’m really counting on die-hard Thinkpad owners who have bought new TPs nearly every year & could help me out with a few models to consider currently!
I do have a fair amount of info on Lenovo Thinkpads and I’m including it below but I hope you can help me with extra advice or things I may not have considered, thanks!
WHAT I KNOW ABOUT LENOVO & THINKPADS
Lenovo is a top producer of laptops but Thinkpads are no longer associated with IBM and some people think this has been a drawback for Thinkpads.
Thinkpads are rigorously tested (milspec) & come with special h/w features like liquid drain-holes and Mg casing.
Counterpoint here is I’m pretty careful with my stuff anyway.
Thinkpads are well engineered software-wise as well and have been tailored to reduce boot up shutdown speed and other smart s/w features.
Counterpoint here is I’m tech savvy enough to reduce bloat-ware etc and buy a stick of ram if needed and am not sure the efficiency on other new laptops is so bad anyway
Thinkpads have an IPS display (I think this is only on high-end models)?
Counterpoint is I don’t know enough about it but assume it’s comparable to other glossy bright displays, ie what is super great about it?
Thinkpads can generally be light & with longer battery though this goes towards high-end models.
Counterpoint here is I’m still looking for a budget Thinkpad so this may not be a factor for me
Ok so the bottom-line is why Thinkpads and which one?
(esp under 1K if possible with coupons)
Also what’s with Ideapads & other Lenovo models (cheaper) are they comparable in Thinkpad technology or not?
Why not other comparable laptops, for eg. my bro just bought a brand new Toshiba e305 which is really well fitted and has a 2 year warranty for a pretty good price ~ $900.
Anyway, really hoping someone can help me out as you can see I have considered plenty of reasons just never owned one and I’m hoping someone who has can give me good objective reasons to consider a Thinkpad.
Thanks.

I’m confused as to what to get someone I care about for Christmas.
I know he’s the outdoors-y type (hiking, skiing, camping, biking), he programs computers and creates software for a living, he’s a Laker and UFC fan, he’s into cars (Gumball rally? -confused- I’m a chick, I don’t know what that means), and I’m on a small budget this year (50 bucks).
So what do I get the man who has practically everything (in storage) for the holidays without breaking my budget?

Question Details: I love teaching/speaking and talking about financial literacy. I DO NOT want to become a financial planner or a investment salesperson. Being financial literate involves more than just “investing”. I also studied finance in colleage and I volunteer on weekends teaching financial literacy courses.
I hope to write a book before the year is over as well as create other info products(CD’s, budgeting software, etc…….) I also want to become a paid speaker and speak at colleages and universities and provide telesiminars and workshops, coaching, etc………
Has anyone ever turned their passion into a career? If so what did you do and does my idea sound far fetched?

I want to be able to add special effects (like making my friend’s eyes look like they are just blue lights) and to remove identifying background details like store signs and license plates by blurring them out or pixellating them or just putting a black box in front of them or whatever. Is anyone aware of any software that will allow me to do this? When I search on “digital video editing” all I ever find is non-linear editors which I already have. I need video effects editors that let me do more than just add a title or transition effect. I need to be able to modify frame contents. I don’t a huge budget so the cheaper the better. Free would be great, but I’d be happy to pay for something that will allow me to do what I want to do. Thanks in advance!!!

Company name: “Avington College”
Number of employees: 20 (10 teaching staff)
Number of Students:80-100
Nature of Business:Private education for 16 – 18 year olds
The college teaches a wide range of subjects (it has not made any significant use of IT), and new management would like to make maximum use of IT in its teaching. This is to include a virtual learning environment, and the use of a wide range of educational resources and software, such as programming environments including Flash or an alternative, image and audio editors and office software. The budget is limited and they are considering open source and freeware options. Security and safety are also important concerns.
The college would also like to set up an online radio station, which would be run by staff and students, to play a mixture of music and talk for a few hours a day, but this would depend on the cost. Six members of staff are already comfortable with using various virtual learning environments, and are computer literate and would like to set up a virtual college in Second Life.
The college are looking to purchase 40 desktop computers for students, and 10 laptops for staff, and to employ a technician.
The desktop computers will be in two classrooms in different parts of the building, and the staff machines will be connected to a wireless network.
You are a consultant who has been asked to give advice on a range of issues, including the type and configuration of the network required, user policies, hardware and software specifications, the life of equipment and training, legal issues and costs, including those of providing an online radio service and setting up a virtual college in Second Life.
