Digital Video Newbie asked:

I want to be able to add special effects (like making my friend’s eyes look like they are just blue lights) and to remove identifying background details like store signs and license plates by blurring them out or pixellating them or just putting a black box in front of them or whatever. Is anyone aware of any software that will allow me to do this? When I search on “digital video editing” all I ever find is non-linear editors which I already have. I need video effects editors that let me do more than just add a title or transition effect. I need to be able to modify frame contents. I don’t a huge budget so the cheaper the better. Free would be great, but I’d be happy to pay for something that will allow me to do what I want to do. Thanks in advance!!!

Need recommendation: Which vedio camera has detachable/wireless collar mike recording system? I find unless you are very near; oncamera mike picks up weak audio specially during interviews session. We wish to make a testimonial promotional film of acceptable quality. I have a modest budget to acquire my equipment: camera, tripod, small light umbrella type and mirophone (collar type). Pretty confused. Please advice. I am from Mumbai India and a graphic artist at that. Just recently learn moviemaker in windows xp it is amazingly simple and a great software

Hey guys, here is my question. I wanna start making films in the same type of theme as Bam’s CKY series. Now before I get bombarded with “What are you stupid?” or “Go to school instead”, this is something I want to do . As a matter of fact i am in college right now with a 4.0 so this is a fun hobby. Now that that is out of the way, to the question. What kind of camcorder would be the best for this? My thinking is that it should be higher quality then just personal home use, I.E. because it is a film that will be edited not just the trip to the zoo or what not. Also what kind of software for editing should I get? I want something very good, would Adobe be worth the $800? Mu budget for the camera is $800-$1200 and the software can be anything, thanks.

I work on a project at my high school that’s basically just a computer class where we record and edit video into weekly episodes for entertainment. We just got a grant for a brand new iMac (top of the line, 2.8 GHz and everything).
Since we have this new Mac and Final Cut Pro (version 6, I believe) I thought that it was time we bought a new camcorder.
We’ll be on a budget so I was looking for cameras under $800. I found the Canon HG10.
I know that this camera records in AVCHD to an internal hard drive. My question is, can I import this format into Final Cut Pro, edit it, and then export it and burn it to a DVD easily? We don’t use HD-DVD’s so it would have to fit on a regular DVD and from what I’ve heard Final Cut converts it to a different format that is HUGE.

Anyone have any suggestions?

We are trying to put together a small, low budget video for a new product our company is trying to promote. We only have a S8000 to play with at the moment and we have made some recordings so far (appear to be .mov files).

Just wondering if there is any software I can use to put splice these recordings together, and put some title screens etc in there too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

So, it seems alot of SD camcorders save their video files as .MOD which is a pain to edit with, and won’t import to software like Windows Movie Maker. Converting .MOD files to .AVI or other sounds like too much of a hassle, I would rather purchase a camcorder which imports files as .AVI so I can edit them straight away with Windows Movie Maker, or Video Edit Magic.

Can you recommend one? Thanks

My old camera is a Hitachi VM-E635LA which uses the old 8MM tapes.

I do a weekly “Gear Review” video for the Internet and would like to upgrade as the batteries on the cam are loosing a charge fast and the recording heads are getting fuzzy.

I have tried the Sony Handycam mini DV and although the photo quality is great, it is hard to use with the computer. You have to use the software that came with it to transfer the video to the desktop computer for editing and I could not get it to work with my editing software, (Adobe Premiere).

I am not sure they make good 8mm cams anymore of if I want a digital over that.

I’m lost at what I should get. I’m not even sure what I should set up for a budget for a new camera.

I have good lighting and software for editing. I just need a good quality, clear, easy to use camera for my videos.

Any help would be great, thanks.

If you need any other info just post and I’ll add in the details, thanks
“go down to the camera store and ask a specialist about what ur after and prices and they can match u to the right one. goodluck”

Thanks, yea my brother gets a discount at best buy so if there’s one i like that they have at bust buy ill try to get it there.

i guess i have to try some out and talk to a few of the guys who sell these cameras all day…

I like to make lots of videos and edit them on my Adobe software. But I only have a wimpy little camera that takes horrible videos (sound, no HD, terrible fps). So I am looking for a nice digital video camera that won’t break my $200 budget. I would like it to a High def, with more than 30 frames per second, and that is around $200. Please give me some options and websites to search. Thankyou.
