actually only paid 55 for ssd. it is oczs smallest, cheapest, poorest model. just wanted windows to boot quick and it allows that, and thats about all lol.
btw i know its not the cheapest, but most would consider a sub 1000 USD budget and mine was not MUCH more than that. and ive seen 4-5k builds before. so i thought “budget” (in quotes) was appropriate lol. also, i have nothing to brag about. i worked 80 hr weeks for two months to build this. and for the first two months of operation at least, all it did was BSOD. im just as poor and dumb as the next guy haha. and if im being totally honest, yes, i could use the self esteem boosts. thank you
lol

$750 is without monitor or software. I have put together this setup on newegg and its runs just about $750 after mail in rebates tax and shipping. Do you have any suggestions on the build? Do you think i could find a better setup? Are there any parts I am spending too much or too little money on? I need come advice for my first build.

I’m 15 and starting a part time job soon, I love to play fps games, and I’m trying to look for a cheap and awesome gaming computer. I’m tired of playing on my very weak laptop that can barely hold 60 fps in my favorite game Combat Arms on the lowest settings. I know a lot about computer parts, but I’m still need a lot of help making my own computer. Here is a site I’m trying to customize my own computer in. Is there any way I can make it cheaper, but still have good performance? or at least a different site that has the same things for cheaper price?

Is it possible to change a few things so that I can play the latest games on full settings without lagging? I’m tired of lagging and next thing I know I die and shooting in slow motion all the time. I’m serious when I’m playing my fps games. This is my first real gaming computer, because I’m using a cheap laptop that can barely hold together on the lowest settings I can set. I’m so tired of lagging 24/7.
Thanks everyone for the info. I’ll upgrade a few things you recommend, but the site doesn’t have some of those options so maybe after I get the computer I’ll upgrade. For the moment I think I’ll get a cheaper computer for now.

Let me know if this computer is any good.
I’m going to get the $1215 computer after I get a decent computer. For now I’m looking for a more possible goal that’s under $600.

So I’m wanting to get into learning Maya, and need to start from the bottom which begins with building a pc that can run it. I’ve only ever owned low-end systems and haven’t a clue about trespassing into the high-end world of computer hardware. I’d like to build a system that can be geared more for doing 3D work while still being able to use it to game on, and for one reason or another I’m inspired to be able to run multiple monitors.
I’d have a budget of around $2500 that I’d like to start with for this project, and need to know where I should go high, and where I could go low as I piece together this system.
When it comes to running software like Maya, what do you really need? A lot of RAM, a high-end graphics card, but what else? I understand that the stronger the card, the stronger the power supply you are going to need to run it…
I guess what I’m asking is if you were to build a computer from scratch for such an endeavor how would you like to do it? Not just upgrading from what you have, but if you started completely fresh.
Does a computer that is geared and promoted toward “extreme gaming” mean it would also run well with 3D animation software? I was looking at this system and wondering if is a good direction of where I need to be going? The Acer AG7750-u3222 i7-930 2.8ghz/12gb/1.5gb/w7hp64

This is all new to me, and quite the pricey mistake to just jump into it without any real advice as to what I should be looking for.
Thanks for the advice, and I was looking at the Nvidia Quadro series of cards. I’d like to go big in order to get the most from running Maya, but it’s going to be pricey. >_< So you think this system would do just fine with upgrading the video card? I'll have to look into how much it would be to build it in comparison to how much this is selling for with and without the Quadro. Perhaps it would be better to build a system around this video card though. Either way it's going to mean I'll have to increase my budget which takes more time, but I'd rather not short myself in a way that's going to be detrimental.

I’m building a budget build for a friend (who knows nothing about computers), and I don’t want her to run into any problems from a hardware standpoint when doing modern web-browsing and media playback. My primary concern is the fact that I’m using a single core CPU along with an IGP. She will likely do a lot of myspace, youtube (amongst other streaming video), music, DVD playback, word processing, etc. I highly doubt she will do any gaming. I also want this computer to play live TV as well. If I go with Ubuntu, I’ve heard of MythTV which I might consider using. However I have no experience (at all) with PC TV-tuners or DVR software (especially on Ubuntu). I’ve given links to hardware I’m unfamiliar with, or need extra opinions on.
Here is the build so far:
Mobo: ASRock 880GM-LE AM3 AMD 880G
CPU: AMD Sempron 140 2.7GHz.
RAM: 1 x 2GB DDR3 1333
GPU: Radeon HD 4250 IGP.
OS: Win7 Home Premium or Ubuntu. (Haven’t decided yet, might go with dual boot)
Other:
HDD: 320GB WD Caviar Blue. (considering upgrading/adding storage for saved TV programs)
ODD: Asus DVD Burner (SATA)
TV: Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1250 Hybrid TV Tuner (PCI-e 1x)

PSU: Rosewill 350w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182023
Disp: Acer 18.5″ (too small?)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009262
Basically I want to know your thoughts on this build. Is there anything you would improve or add? Is it capable of a smooth multimedia experience (TV included)? Keep in mind I want to keep the entire build as cheap as possible, preferably under $500 for the entire build. I’m at $414 so far before tax and shipping.
I’m not sure. I do know she lives in a trailer in some dude’s back yard (I laughed too). She has a dog, and room-shares and stuff of that nature had too many restrictions for her. I have yet to see it, but I can’t really imagine her living room being that big. I will actually see her place later this week. I’m just having trouble picturing the screen size. I have an 19″ Dell monitor, but it’s a 4:3 ratio. It’s about 12.25″ tall and mine isn’t too small, however I’ve never owned a widescreen.
The form-factor is an issue, and I have no experience with NVIDIA ION Graphic chipsets, but I hear they are pretty good. Also I would prefer the whole package (monitor included) to be under $500.
I will most likely go the Ubuntu route.
I’m thinking about getting a super small SSD (10-20GB) since I’m probably going the Ubuntu route and then getting a much larger storage drive later down the road. Thoughts on that?
