my friend and i are starting a manga and we need some sort of software to get us started art-wise. as of right now we’re broke and left with pencils and Sharpies. we’re not ready to dish out fifty or sixty dollars on an art program (and i can’t use photoshop 5.0 to save my life!). this also includes Manga Studio. too expencive for our budgets. and, we’re not computer experts (i’m thirteen), so something that requires Geek Squad speak won’t exactly be a blessing. is there anything out there that is basic and simple enough to get us by without costing an arm and a leg?

I am looking at buying a Bamboo tablet, and i looked up the Bamboo pen compared to the pen & touch, and i was debating whether it is worth it to buy the p&t? the regular pen tablet is smaller and around $100 less money, with less software, but i am on a budget…so should i save up for the more expensive one? is it worth it the higher price?

More specifically, would the equipment — processor, illustrator/paint software, scanner, printer, stylus pen to make 40″ X 40″ and smaller archival inkjet prints fall within approx. a $3000 startup budget? What about other costs such as archival inks, etc.? Can this type home based setup produce archival prints on 140 lb. rag and heavier paper? If anyone has had experience making these, would love to hear what all is involved including training needed up and above traditional painting/drawing in order to produce these prints.

I’ve been given the task to design a logo for the manufacturing plant I work at. I have a budget of $0, which means I have to do this by myself. In looking online I see that there is software out there to do the actual design, but what I need help with is where to begin? In other words, where do I start? How do I get the creative juices going?

The Vision of our plant is Achieving Excellence Together – so I need to incorporate this into the logo, but I’m not sure how. Any ideas on how to begin this process would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been storyboarding an idea for a short animation (3-5 minutes) and I’m wondering where to go next. I was planning to animate on tracing paper, scan it, superimpose the individual frames on a Photoshop-generated background and flatten the image, but I’m not sure which video editing software would support some 5000 clips at a frame rate of 12 fps. I also don’t know how big I should make the .jpeg files, or even what pixel size would be necessary. I’m a teenager and I don’t want to break the bank on software (there’s a budget of about $1000), but some general advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

By photo software, I mean fully capable digital photo editors, such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Paint Shop, paint.NET, etc. I’m looking for one to get, and need some advice for which one to get. And keep in mind that budget is a bit of an issue, since I’m only 14. Thanks in advance for any help
