I had an IBM ThinkPad before but had a bad experience with the hard drive crashing. I am a life-long windows user and don’t mind vista too much–and am familiar with the Mac interface as well.
I use my computer for web browsing primarily, and word process a lot as well (I’m a college student). Most of my storage is dedicated to software programs and music, and the only real need is that I do some modeling in excel that requires speed and the ability to use excel with Microsoft Windows shortcuts (only an issue w/ the Mac, so parallels or Boot Camp would be required).
I’m really open to anything, and my budget goes up to around the $2100 for a MacBook Pro, though I don’t know if I truly need that sort of juice. Also, I like to use my laptop at home with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse so a docking station is important. Last, I travel but weight/size isn’t of the utmost importance.
Thanks!

Hi friends,
I am planning to buy a laptop powered with Core2Duo 2.4GHz processor with 3gb of ram but very confused about the brand…
I am a software engineer and going to work mainly on visual studio .Net (2-3 instances simultaneously) and internet.
If i only care about the battery backup and performance…which one will be better?

Our primary need is to provide wifi service to about 18-20 acres in a 1400 x 600 feet (427 x 183 meters) area. Tree foliage is very dense above 10-12 feet. Below 10 feet, tree trunks and other objects obscure about 20-60% of overall line-of-sight @ 200-300 feet in any direction. 60-100% obscured beyond 300 feet.
There’s almost no demand from customers, so this is just a low-budget experiment. What type of indoor/outdoor hardware would you recommend? What software would you recommend that would allow us to charge the customer for access?

I’m going into college next year and my path is Architecture. Some of the programs I will be using are pretty powerful, like all the Auto-desk software. Also, every now and again I wouldn’t mind playing a game of Counter Strike Source of Halo for PC on the highest graphical and audio settings. My budget is $1000.00. I need to know what I should get in the computer, i.e, ram, processor power, graphics card, certain brand?

Hi,
I am trying to figure out which apple laptop to get for running Logic Pro. I need portability, so please don’t tell me to get iMac or Power Mac.
I won’t be able to afford the software right away, so should I get the Macbook? Do I NEED a Macbook Pro for running Logic because of the 13″ screen size?
How much of a difference is there running Logic Pro 7 on a 17″ from the 15″ from the 13″?
Please help and thoroughly explain your rationale!
Thanks!

I recently acquired a Toshiba Tecra, and am trying to update all software. We are a family of three, one adult, one teen going into high school, and one child. We own several games including Sims 3. Currently, most software is 2008, and the computer came with Windows 7 Professional. I would like to know what kind of video card, Windows, Microsoft, sound, security, upgrades, updates, and other software I should purchase and where. We are on a relatively tight budget, and don’t need “the fanciest” things. We just need to get by and have a fast enough computer to use on a daily basis without frustration. Thank you for your time.

I looked online, and some of the programs I’ll be using are Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Viz, MatLab, and some others. At the moment I’m not sure if I’ll be putting all of this software on my laptop. But assuming I did want to be able to run AutoCAD or Revit on my laptop, what would you suggest? What sort of specs should I be looking for? Keep in mind that I’ll be lugging this around a big campus, so it can’t be too heavy. And my budget will probably be around $1000 (preferably less).

So I was wondering wether to get a lenovo or some other notebook. My budget is perfect for lenovo’s price range but im a little unfamiliar with em. I heard that they are different than others such as dell, hp, etc in the way that it uses different programs, software and such. Like i heard it does not use microsoft or windows??? Then how is the function of this netbook. More specifically, the Lenovo Ideapads
