we recently purchased a yamaha usb recording interface, it came with cu base a1. at the store they mentioned something about the Program being the lite version of cu base (don’t know if this is true or not). well the program downloaded fine but when we recorded some tracks they recorded fine but i seems that there’s Lots of glitches in the system. it turns on things by itself and so on, but that’s not the major problem. whats happening is on the playback of the track we get digital distortion. we have determined its not the interface or our pa (windows media plays the tracks just fine through the interface) or the computer the system requires 1g ram and 1gh processor. the computer being used has 3g ram and 2gh processor so it cant be the comp it must be the program. now the question is dose any one have experience with cu base, have you experienced this problem, is it the lite version, are there better versions of cu base, can the distortion possible be fixed in the program, is there a better alternative to cu bas (not pro tools). we are actually used to pro tools but is kinde of out of our budget right now. any profesional answers would help.
we would probably want a differant program this one is starting to be a big hassel

I’ve got the software, the microphones, cables, and so forth, but the last step I need is to find a way to hook up multiple microphones into my laptop. It’s difficult for me to just get another sound card because I am using a laptop, so what other alternative ways could I hook up the microphones to the computer? Currently, I just convert the microphone to a 1/8th and fit it into the headphone slot in the laptop, but I understand I lose quite a bit of quality that way as well. What better methods are there for under $200, and hopefully would allow me to record from up to at least 2 or 3 microphones at the same time? Thanks.

I currently own a pro tools mbox 2 and have 2 computers. One for production. One for recording. I am debating on weather or not i should take the memory from the old one and put it on the new one, and control everything from there or use both computers. Thats one question. My real problem is that I only have the recording hard/software (pro tools). I have decided on a mic (the rode nt1A), but i cant find any QUALITY, cost efficient monitors.

Also what are the +/- to buying a sound card.
Pro Tools lets me mix through the software. Why do i need a mixer?
Mic Pre Amp. Why?
I know its a lot, but I really need help on this one!
Look out for me!
Thanx.
I am lookin more for a final mix down mixer (if that made sense), but what are the advantages of an input mixer? What about a sound card? any advantages of getting one?
By the way. Thanx! That helped

I’d like to produce some music using only software (I have no synths or other hardware) but I’m a total beginner, so I don’t want to have to buy a really expensive software. What can you recommend that’s decent quality but not over £30?

(I’m most influenced by Dance, Electronic.)

(I know anything in my budget will sound pretty amateur, but I just want to get a feel of if it’s worth buying proper software, and I need longer than trial periods offered by most companies; I’m not planning on releasing it or anything)

(Preferably a software pack you can buy in UK shops or amazon, my Internet connection is too bad to trust downloads)

Thanks xx

hey, so I saw this micropone usb disk that you plug into your computer and it’s like a software, it was $50 and I really can’t afford anything more than that, so does anyone know if something like this works?

or is there anything that can help you record on the computer and make mixed cds from your own original songs?

I want to make music using only software. I am aiming for a sound like La Roux (also would like to make music like MGMT, Black Kids, or something like Crystal Castles “Untrust Us”). Can someone tell me what I am going to need to buy. Budget is around $600.

First off I am running off of a MacBook Pro OS X 10.6. I am going into college in August and am recording a couple bands this summer at my home studio. I have all the hardware that I need I just need some software to go along with it. It must be compatible with my mixer though (a Mackie Profx12). Currently I am between Apple’s Logic Studio Express 9, Ableton Live Intro, and Steinberg’s Cubase Essential 5.

I have concerns with all of them and am unsure of which one to purchase. With Apple’s Logic Studio Express 9 I am concerned that this purely focused on the features they would offer though rather than the actual recording and mixing part. With Ableton Live Intro I am concerned that it focused more on creating beats for hip-hop and performing DJ-ing rather than an all around quality software for production. Finally with Steinberg’s Cubase Essential 5 I do just not know enough about. I appreciate anything you can give me! I am on a strict budget of under $200.

I want to get into making/recording songs.. like singing/rapping and maybe even making beats i guess? I’m really new to all of it so if you can suggest and software or hardware it would be great! I am on a budget of around $500-600? So please tell me what are the basic equipment I might need like microphone,program,etc..

Right. I have a guitar, a bass, a small amplifier, a laptop (on Windows Vista) and a copy of Ableton. That’s all. What I want to get now and have advice on:

1) A synth/keyboard (must be small and portable, yet also able to make ‘unusual’ sounds)

2) A microphone

3) A drum synthesiser

I would like to know a decent option for me to buy for each of the above, and I can’t really spend a lot of money. I’m not going to reveal my budget, as I don’t want to be given the most basic options. I’m going for the midrange, basically.

Also, I do ultimately want to record my music. As I mentioned, I have a home studio program (Ableton) on my laptop. What I need to know is:

1) What do I need to record my guitar and bass guitar directly to my laptop? As in, I’m guessing I need some kind of gadget which connects my amp to my computer, but what? And where can I find it to order online?

2) I like Ableton, it’s nice, but is there any other kind of software which is better for recording and mixing electronic guitar music?

Please don’t tell me to buy a Mac – I’m happy with my Toshiba laptop and my vast external hard-drive.

***Thank you very much for any help you can offer me!***

I’ve been a musician all my life, and I’ve recorded a few times, but I don’t have any equipment or software of my own. When I record, I’ll have a singer, guitar, bass, piano (keyboard or regular) and a drummer (drum machine probably) in my songs. I will want to be able to layer tracks, since obviously I can’t record everything at the same time. I don’t have a microphone, but I have 2 amps (a fender superchamp and a peavey 2-input keyboard amp), and enough instruments. What equipment and software do I need to record and mix a song myself? And how much will it cost? My budget is around 300$. I don’t need nice equipment, just stuff to get some songs recorded.
