I had my home finances set-up on excel and my husband accidentally deleted it all. Two years worth of Record keeping! It is my fault for not backing up my information of course but now I don’t even want to LOOK at Excel, and to be honest I forget how to do half of that stuff anyway. Also it got complicated because our pay-date fluctuates slightly. Altogether it just sounds like more of a headache that its worth to use excel. It took me a long time to get my spreadsheets how I wanted them and I don’t want to deal with the headache again.
All I honestly am looking for is something where I can input our pay date, insert our bills and it will track how much money we have and when we have it. Simple!
Any suggestions? A friend of mine told me to just search for free home budgeting software but as far as I can tell there isn’t anything like that available.

I’m starting my first real job. The pay is really nice, and frankly I fear I will end up spending too much of it. I want to live a fun life and spend a good amount of the money, but only after saving for things.
Most budgeting software requires you provide it with historical data, I don’t really have any. I was hoping someone could recommend software that has a good estimation system built in.. Like something that would survey my lifestyle and then based on my location suggest a guide for how much I should set aside for rent/entertainment.
I know the commonly held believe is that we should save something like 20%, but whats the recommended % of your income that should go to rent? or to partying? How does having/not having a car factor in?
Please help!!

I’ve tackled most of the budgeting between her and I myself, while trying to teach her a few different systems to keep track of our finances. Anything from just using different envelopes to keep track, to using various software to help. It’s just not working though, frankly it’s starting to worry me too. She buzzed through practically our entire next month’s rent in a week and a half…so I’m kinda freaking out. And no, rent’s nothing that I can’t replace, I’m just worried about her doing something like that again.

I want to see if I can live on about $65,000 a year for one year. I currently make about $170,000. I’m planning to start July 1, 2011.
How do I do this experiment? Do I just open up a new bank account and keep track of how much money is coming in and going out?
Are there any software that will make it easy?

I have quicken 2009 and it’s okay but really glitchey on windows 7. I was considering getting 2011 but I hear rumors that this might be their last release and i don’t want to start using it only to loose support after a year or so.
Does anyone have any recommendations for personal finance software. I’m looking for something to track my money, budget and forecasting. I’ve tried Mint but it doesn’t seem to offer much besides a nice interface (which I really like). I was considering Yodlee but I didn’t quit like the setup.
Any recomendations?

Okay Im 19 I don’t make much money nor do I have a bank account so I really dont need all the extra options and crap. I just need a way to manage how I spend the money I make from my job. A budget planner for saving up would be nice too. Everything I’ve downloaded so far has frustrated me. Any basic simple freeware out there I can use?

i want to start a budget and to track personal finances like mortgage, stocks, etc – but i don’t want the program to be web-based or to download info from my banks and credit cards. i don’t like the idea of using my username and passwords from an application like this. i feel that it is not very secure. i am willing to enter in all of the account info myself, but cannot find a software program that allows this.
suggestions please?
