Cautiously Optimistic asked:
I am trying to find something that has a checkbook register, the concept of snowballing debt and a budget planner. I am very interested in Dave Ramsey’s software but people say it doesn’t run well on windows 7 and that is all I have to work with. Are the any similar programs that don’t require a monthly fee?

I live with my girlfriend and we would like to find some software to help us track our expenses, budget and plan for the future. Our accounts are separate from each other but we would like to be able to track our bills, budget, etc as a whole and separately. I have been trying to setup with Quicken 2009 and it doesn’t handle it too well. It tends to want to continuously group us together.

I’d prefer to find something either cheep or free. I’d rather not have to resort to excel unless anyone knows a good template.

I am the one who pays the bills and stuff for our household. My husband and I decided to start saving money to purchase a second property so we are needing to create and stick to a budget. How do you organize your expenses, reciepts and your budget? Do you use quicken? a receipt scanner? another software?

I don’t need anything to link to my accounts or even close to being complicated. I just need something that I can enter my income, my expenses and get a remainder, maybe a chart or two from. I currently use excel to do my budgeting and that is working pretty good so I don’t need much more than that. I looked at pearbudget.com and if it were free that would be a good match too.
Also, I’ve looked at mint.com and I’m not willing to use a site that wants me to give them my bank passwords. I don’t need it to link to my accounts just let me enter dollar amounts.

At the end of this year, my husband and I are going through a few expensive life changes (a baby and I am moving home with the baby when he deploys) Our main issue is going to be the move which will be about $5000 for a moving truck and airfare and gas to move 3000 miles… Anyways we really need to start saving and the best way to do that would be to budget. I have windows vista and there may be something on here that could help me, but I cant find them. Any free budgeting software online? Or any spreadsheet tips? I just really need help with this.

Hi all.
Hi all.
I’m considering flatting with a few mates, but I have no idea how to organise my money effectively. Can anyone recommend (preferably free / open source) budgeting software that can track costs and savings?
I could use excel, but I’m curious what other options there are.
If you have any advice about renting, I’ll be glad to hear it too.
Cheers,
Buford Hrna
