I was curious what works for other people out there who has to manage their finances on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.
When I first moved out of the house I wasn’t tought about how to budget and pretty much had to fall on my face. I had a checking account but didn’t keep good records and would be naive and bounce checks so I started getting money orders for everything and that helped to have better tabs to where it went.
By the time I had my second child I got the hang of using the checkbook register and would highly recommend that to anyone who is learning about budgeting or doesn’t have financial software.
When we bought our first computer it had Microsoft Money on it and I didn’t like it and would forget to log things so I deleted the program and went back to paper method.
A few years later I decided to try the Quicken software which was verison 2004 and got hooked. I’m currently using verison Qkn Deluxe 2006 and was wanting to upgrade but didn’t need investment catagories.

I am getting married soon and am the ultimate budget cruncher. I currently keep track of my spending, My fiance is great, but I know I’m better about pulling the “purse strings” than he is (though he is not a floozy spender at all).
I have been using excel and making up my own tracker as I go, but it’s not really functional as far as budget keeping. What programs are user friendly especially when it comes to keeping track of different categories (mortgage, groceries, incoming bills, student loan payments, etc)?

I’ve been using Microsoft Money since 2002, so I have over 7 years of financial data. However, now the Microsoft is leaving the personal finance mgmt business, what is the best alternative? An important requirement is that I save these 7 years of information. I would like web based, but I must be able to import my current information. I have stock information, retirement info, various bank accounts and credit cards.
What is the best personal finance management software today?

Hi everyone! Need some advice here…
I am looking into different (free) online software options – my man and I are trying to organize and consolidate our finances. I have been researching and so far, have found the following options:
Mint, Quicken Online (they bought mint so it seems their basic version IS mint now), Geezeo, Wesabe, Rudder, Yodlee, Buxfer, Expensr, BudgetPulse, MoneyStrands
Does anyone in the Yahoo Answers community have any opinions on any of these, based on experience with them hopefully? Pros/con for specific sites, that sort of thing? Remember, we are trying to create one profile that would encompass each of our individual AND joint bank accounts/credit cards/loans (investments/retirement too, maybe?) and collect them all together in one place, so that either of us can log on anytime and work with all of this info easily. Also, hopefully, we’d like a program that allows us to pay bills directly…?
Thoughts? Thanks!

I am trying to set up a budget to help me make better financial decisions and I am in need of some help. I’ve tried doing it with paper and pencil but that just doesn’t work for me. I’ve been looking at some software and I’m wondering does anyone have any reccomendations. Is Money better that Quicken? Has anyone tried Mvelopes? Looking for some ideas so that I can implement my budget quickly..
Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, So I recently started my EMS career. I live at home currently and wish to move out. Well so you know, EMTs don’t make very much money at all… I need to figure out a budget. right now im and impulsive spender and most of the time couldn’t tell you how much money I have.
I figured with the way business and computers are these days, there there would be a nifty piece of software intended for this particular task. I could probably pull out all my old high school books, but why when there are computers!
Thanks!
