I’m making a low budget horror pic and am torn between these two products, mostly because of cost and operating system. I already got the camera and accessories (I bought the brand new Canon HV20).

I personally have no problems with macs and PCs in general. And from what I hear, both Final Cut and Avid are excellent editing softwares, they have both been used on various movies (i.e. Final Cut for “300″ and Avid for the “Matrix” films).

But people keep saying Macs and Final Cut is the best to get. So I’ll have to spend $1500 on mac computer and $1300 on Final Cut Pro? I see that Final Cut Express is much cheaper but I’m not too sure what’s so different about it and is it an advantage or disadvantage to Final Cut Pro?

First off, let me say that I’m a 15 year old girl and low on cash, so I’m on a budget people! Anyways, here are my 4 options:

1. Keep Tiger and iLife ’06.
2. Keep Tiger but upgrade to iLife ’09.
3. Keep iLife ’06 but upgrade to Leopard.
4. Upgrade to both iLife ’09 and Leopard.

Please explain why you picked the one you did! Also, iWork ’09 is not an option whatsoever so please don’t mention it.

The 2 programs I’ve been looking at are Vegas Movie Studio HD 9 ($44) or Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 ($94). And I’m not sure which one to pick. I’ve looked through reviews, the overviews of the products on the site, videos on Youtube. And I still am not sure which to pick.

What do you think would be best?

The Microsoft Office 2003 was purchased in upgrade form to install over Microsoft Works 7.0 – that’s the linchpin of my problem. If I can install Microsoft Works 7.0 on a Windows 7 computer then I’m golden, if I can’t then I have to budget for the purchase of a new Office package because while OpenOffice will read all my Works, Word and Excel – the Word files don’t look the same when opened with OpenOffice.
