Will this software setup be better with a dual or quad core CPU?
by admin ~ December 2nd, 2009 . Filed under: Desktops .Hi guys,
im going to upgrade my pc (currently have an AMD athlon 64 3200+, 1gb ddr333 ram….)
and i want to upgrade because this is what i wanna do:
i wanna install ubuntu or mandriva as my main OS, and run a virtualbox with windows XP….
i want to know if i have the virtualbox open permanently, will it be better to get a quad core CPU or will a Dual core CPU be good enough? also, i wanna get 2-4 gigs of DDR2 ram.
i dont wanna dual boot, so dont bother suggesting that as i want most of my PC experience in linux (im sick of xp and vista.. just not stable…) but i still need windows to run software such as my MYOB accounting, CD/DVD ripping/burning, iTunes, and games if i cant get them to run in linux, etc etc… and i dont intend to reboot my pc 100 times to print off invoices for my business….
and budget is a concern, the less the better….. i dont wanna get a quad core if the software i tend to use wont be benefiting…
any other suggestions/opinions will be great

The future dual core at higher clock speed will be better or as good.

The best thing about linux think dual core is not do enough at this time.

Unless you are going to be gaming or video editing,3D work or engineering I wouldn’t bother about the Quad core just to do office work - that would be the equivalent of getting a Bugatti Veyron just to do the super market shopping.
