How can I find out the causes of my cpu’s clearing fields instead of entering and unknown stop errors?

The security software I have says no viruses or spyware, but I am not sure if it’s bad hardware, bad software, lousy security, wrong settings, a worm, a horse, or one of the other virtual ailments. I can’t budget a new cpu at this time and the internet has become a cornerstone of every day life in my home so a solution must be found.
