what firewall and anti spyware software is best for win98?
by admin ~ May 4th, 2009 . Filed under: Security .Jerome L asked:
is there any firewall and anti spyware or a firewall encrypted with anti-spyware available and will work well with win98 system?
cause i’m really getting freaked out with the attacks, freezes, lock-ups and slowing down of my pc. i’m planning to upgrade it to vista next month when i have enough budget. hope you can help.

Use some freebies to keep you going for the next month …
Firewall: ZoneAlarm
Anti-spyware: LavaSoft Ad-Aware, SpyBot Search & Destroy
Those kept my 98 box going unitl I got an XP machine. Good luck!

Best firewall I’ve used on Win98 is AtGuard. It takes very little memory, it’s simple to use, and yet verry effective. And for spyware there are standard sollutions, AdAware, SpyBot. Also, ZoneAlarm is good firewall and it have antyspyware in it, but it takes much memory and it’s not free.

2 things wrong here!
Win 98 is dead and has been dead for a long time. I don’t know noadware but the others aren’t going to work right and cause you worse problems. Your system won’t support them, file size/ram/take 10-15 minutes to boot.
Tough it out and get a new comp. You are about 5 years over due.
Oh and get a router when you buy the comp as it will save you from buying a Firewall subscription with someone.
If you are DSL/cable/FTTH this is all true, if Dial-up- well you’re still screwed and ignore me.
