Ism asked:

So I think I have some musical talent.

I know who doesn’t? LOL

but I want to at least give it a shot. I been looking for software in which i can take instrumentals from songs and record myself. I’d had no luck. Any suggestions. PLEASE SUGGEST FREE ONES. I know that the best are probably paid for… but I’m a budget here.

If you want free software, I would use Audacity

This one will NOT work. It only records the sound that your computer plays out of its speakers.

Try this one, it is free and looks great.

You want to record yourself using a backing track from which the vocals have been removed?
    Two phase operation.
Both can be done with Audacity 1.3.7 beta. Version 1.2 does not have a vocal remover.

How well vocals are removed depends on how the song was mixed in the studio. Even the most expensive applications might not do any better.
Open the original song from the file menu.
Highlight the whole song by clicking and dragging then click vocal remover via the effects menu.
Export and save as a new file.
To record your vocal in multi-track format you need to set it.
    Go to File / Preferences.
On the Audio I/O tab check “play other tracks while recording new one”
When you click record the backing track will play while you are recording the new one.
Obviously better if you have a hand held microphone. The recording input for this is set in the drop down window at the top right of Audacity.
Adjust levels (mix), edit and export and save.

Don’t get your hopes up with the vocal remover.
Unless you have the original multi-track studio recording or a karaoke version has been released the result could be less than optimal.

You can get a heap of extra plug in effects from here:

If you need Lame to encode to mp3:

You can try WavePad. It’s a tiny download and there is a freeware and a licensed version. But for recording to Mp3 it’s free and there is no need to install an extra component like Audacity to save to Mp3.

If you need to create the instrumentals from your music you can import the CD (.cda) file into WavePad and run the “Remove Vocals” effect. You can’t remove all vocals completely (unless you have the original mix of the song) and you can’t run the Remove Vocals effect on Mp3 (because they are so compressed).
